"Reel Memories Under The Clarksville Sky" is envisioned as a vivid tribute to place, memory, and community -a mural that transforms the Public Works Building into both a landmark and a storytelling surface. Drawing
inspiration from the site's history as the former location of a beloved drive-in theater, the design captures the nostalgic warmth of an evening at the movies while celebrating Clarksville's evolving identity.
The composition places viewers directly inside the experience of the drive-in. Classic mid-century automobiles glowing under a deep twilight sky evoke the familiar rituals of gathering, waiting for the show to begin, and sharing quiet moments with family and friends.
At the center, a silhouetted couple seen from inside a vintage car becomes a universal symbol of memory - inviting residents and visitors alike to project their own stories onto the scene. The illuminated marquee-style lettering and film reel motifs reinforce the cinematic theme, while the expansive night sky connects the work to the mural's title and to the broader landscape of Clarksville itself.
Beyond nostalgia, the mural is intended to function as a bridge between past and present. Installed on the Town's modern Public Works facility, it acknowledges the progress and growth represented by the new campus while honoring the emotional history embedded in the land. It is a visual remembrance of a shared local landmark and a celebration of Clarksville's commitment to integrating art, history, and civic identity into its public spaces.
Facing the highly trafficked Brown Station Way corridor, the mural is designed for immediate visual impact at a large scale. Bold forms, dramatic contrast, and iconic imagery ensure readability from a distance, while layered details reward closer viewing. The result is a welcoming, accessible public artwork that beautifies the corridor, sparks recognition and conversation, and preserves the spirit of a cherished Clarksville memory under the evening sky.
