"Above the Nest", Sarasota, FL

(Spring/ Summer 2026)

Completed Public Art Mural Projects

"Satoru Tsuneishi Park", Monrovia, CA

(December 2025; 600 sq ft)

The mural traces Satoru Tsuneishi’s journey in Monrovia, CA—from immigrant student to community leader and poet—spanning nearly eight decades. Key milestones include his 1914 graduation as the first Japanese American from Monrovia High School, his integration of Japanese tradition into American culture through haiku, and his enduring legacy honored by public memorials like this installation.

Stretching 102 feet, the mural unfolds chronologically from left to right:

1910s: Tsuneishi’s conversion to Christianity and pursuit of education, graduating in 1914 as the school’s first Japanese American graduate.

1910s–1920s: His return to Japan, marriage to Sho Murakami, and their life together in Monrovia symbolized by the family crest.

1930s–1940s: Raising a family and running a fruit stand and chicken farm along Historic Route 66.

WWII Era: His family’s displacement at Heart Mountain, Wyoming, where he continued writing poetry; Sho is depicted holding one of his service awards.

Post-War Years: Recognition under his pen name Shisei, with haiku and Japanese traditions bridging cultures. Later panels show his awards and medals for service.

Tsuneishi passed away in 1987 at age 99. In 2025, Monrovia honors his legacy with the unveiling of Satoru Tsuneishi Park, celebrating his resilience, cultural contributions, and role as a pioneer in education, faith, and art.

"Modesto's 150th Anniversary", Modesto, CA

(October 2025; 1200 sq ft)

This mural celebrates Modesto, California’s 150th anniversary with a sweeping visual symphony of architecture, culture, and history. Colorful vignettes unfold across the surface like chapters in a story, weaving together the city’s most iconic landmarks and traditions. From the stately McHenry Mansion and the storied Hawkes Castle to the graceful Dry Creek Bridge, the Southern Pacific Railroad, the State Theater, and the luminous Gallo Center for the Arts, each element shines as a tribute to Modesto’s enduring spirit.

At the heart of the design, the Modesto Arch rises with its curved, flowing lines—an emblem that unites past and present, tying together the city’s highlights in one continuous gesture. The mural’s overarching style draws inspiration from mid-century modern architecture, infused with the vibrancy of Modesto’s cultural identity. Homages to Chief Estanislao, the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos, and the dynamic energy of Folklórico dance bring depth and soul to the composition.

The color palette, alive with tones reflecting Modesto’s geography, climate, and diversity, transforms the mural into more than an artwork—it becomes a living portrait of the city itself: resilient, radiant, and ever-evolving.

Holland, and Ruby Falls.

Funded by theCO and the City of Jackson, TN, the project culminated in a powerful unveiling ceremony attended by the families of the late musicians.
