My recent work involves the use of oil, acrylic, and ink on vellum. Color is the
foundation on which everything is built. By letting the color tell the story, I
am unlimited in how any particular work might unfold. In this phase of creation,
there are no preconceived thoughts confining output, instead the moment determines
my color palette. By being completely in the moment, I am able to subconsciously
pull from past experiences while also thinking toward the future. To truly find
myself in the moment, I lose myself in my work and become absorbed by it. It is
this vulnerability that allows my most sincere work to be put on paper or canvas.
Linear forms add dimensions reflecting the complexity of the vision of each work.
Intuitively removing elements of my work means the process is essentially a cycle
of addition and subtraction, where anything and everything is expendable. Mistakes
lead to places in my art I would never have gone or thought have going, therefore
they are to be valued. Taking chances is vital. I am constantly challenging my eyes
to view the work in new angles and different perspectives with an emphasis on overall
composition. While every work begins in tolerable chaos, each concludes in a delicate
balance of restraint, solace and meditation. I tend to gravitate towards themes
of life versus death, nature versus invention, all while highlighting the impermanence
of it all. My work embodies a symbiotic relationship between elements both organic
and synthetic, and the continual strive for balance between the two. This resulting
interplay of components ultimately characterizes the complexity of a world consumed
by technological advancement while simultaneously trying to retain the qualities
which make us human. Each work is a culmination of reward versus sacrifice. My definitive
goal is to share my work with the world and eventually live on through my work.
